I love this backpack!

I love this backpack!
I bought this for my 57lb dog. It fits him very nicely and it has a good amount of play in the front strap and the 2 stomach straps to compensate for differences in dog shapes and sizes. The orange trim looks much nicer than I thought it would. When I read that it was green and orange I was a little worried about how it would look, but even with the three different colors (black mesh, orange trim and green bags) it looks nice. The inside of each pouch is large enough to hold two regular sized bottles of water. One pouch also has two pockets which conveniently fit a cell phone and the other pouch has a small zippered pocket for placing other items in.

Guardian Gear Polyester Dog Back Pack, Medium, Green
This is a well designed dog back pack and is exactly what I needed for daily walking and light hiking with my 50 lb. Sheltie. With a chest girth of 28" he is at the top limit for the large pack, but it fits him well. The two belly straps and one chest strap do not interfere with his leg movement. The liner is breathable mesh and is open under the handy grab handle which allows for more ventilation, important for my long haired and double coated dog. The medium fits chests 15"-25", pack is 7"x5"x2".(please note the small size of the pack). The large fit's chests 22"-28", pack is 10.5"x8"x3". The large pack will hold 2-16oz water bottles in each large compartment(one large compartment on each side). There is room for bags, treats and other small items in the small compartments but that is the limit for this pack. The picture used in the product description is of the large pack for both medium and large sizes, don't let the medium size picture fool you as it did me.

This product isn't built to be used by a dog that goes hiking. It fell apart within 100 yards of the trail head. My dog went through some brush and came out with both pouches torn off. If you are just walking in the park it might hold up.

I bought this on the recommendation of a dog trainer, who suggested my young dog needs more exercise. She still had loads of energy even after hour long brisk walks.

So now I put the backpack on her, and put a can of soup on each side to weigh it down a bit. I tried using water bottles, but after drinking out of one of the bottles, the unevenly distributed weight caused the backpack to shift to one side. The backpack with the soup cans worked great! She got a lot more out of her walks, and was more calm and less destructive having gotten enough exercise.

Sadly, after three months (not of daily use - more like 1-2 hikes per week), the seams of the pouches are ripping badly on both sides. I'll need to look for a sturdier replacement.

We purchased this because of reflective trim. We had the medium for our 37 pound small dog, then got this large for 63 pound ginger dingo mix. His coat is fluffy and the light fabric and padded straps did not matt, tangle or tear at his fur as other dog apparel have. The smaller dog has a sleek, short oilier coat, and the textured surface stayed secure and didn't slide around. Packs increase visibility, and serve as "calmers" in crowds. Fabric good for Florida climate and events--farmers markets, fairs, and concerts year round. The divided pouches hold a soft dish and treats; large pouch a food serving. Both dogs have a copy of their medical records and our contact info. There did not seem to be an easy way to fit water as standard bottles didn't fit well and the sloshing sound was irritating.
1 hour into the first use, the elastic cord fell off. The pouches were not overly stuffed, the dog had only been sitting to that side. Simple mending reattached the cord.
FIT: Straps super easy to adjust, belly straps wonderfully padded. Dogs seemed perfectly at ease, comfortable, and never fought the wear. Pouches stayed level but did better if loads were divided. Factor balance techniques in for after contents are consumed. We rearranged things a few times, but the dogs enjoyed the attention,
FASTENERS: all clips and fasteners were secure. Although the elastic broke, all zippers and hook-n-loop closures worked well. Nothing fell out and dogs didn't try to snuffle into their packs for treats. The HANDLE is a great feature. It really simplifies fitting, removing, packing and storing the backpack. It also is strong and comfortable enough that we can LIFT assist a tired old dog in and out or out of the car after a big day!
COLOR: Camping forest green with safety orange trim. Classic.
YOU MAY NEED TO: check all fasteners, zippers, and pull tabs first, and maybe put an extra couple of stitches at stress points.
WISH LIST: Our red brindle dog is practically camouflage, so the reflectors were a deciding factor. The packs for us are a way to accompany the dogs all day carrying their own supplies, and serve as a calming shirt. Opposite of forest green I want visibility. Therefore, I would buy this pack again if it were offered in a bright color or perhaps a ribbon cause color, e.g. pink ribbon, or canine rescue.

I bought this back pack for my Golden Retriever before a camping trip this fall. It was very sturdy and well made, and it adjusted to his size just fine. I feel as if it would fit a wide range of dogs with different body types because all the straps are adjustable. My dog had a great time wearing it and didn't mind it at all! I enjoyed being able to take him hiking while he carried his own water and poop bags :)

We bought this back pack to use while walking our 1 1/2 year old english springer spaniel. We fill it with a little weight, so it tires him out more, as a regular walk (even a 2 hour hike) will not tire him out a whole lot. This works great. It gives him more of a work out, and it seems to settle him down more, it also gives him a "job" to do which is great for hyper/working dogs. This is nice and comfortable for the dog, the harness is made of a mesh like material that has a little stretch, and the packs on the sides are made of a water resistant nylon fabric. He has no problems wearing it. There is a hook on it to attach a leash but we use a pinch collar for now, as he is a terrible walker with out it, and we are trying to wean him off that to a regular collar.
