Choosing the Correct Size for Your Pet
NOZTONOZ(R) Sof-Krate Pet Homes are available in five sizes to accommodate almost any size pet. First measure your pet from the top of his head to the floor; the Sof-Krate only needs to be one to two inches taller than this measurement. Second measure your pet from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail; the Sof-Krate only needs to be four to six inches longer than this measurement. This will allow your pet enough room to stand up turn around and lay down comfortably in his Sof-Krate. You can of course provide a larger space for your pet but remember that dogs are den animals and feel most comfortable and secure in an enclosed area. Use the handy chart located below to choose the perfect Sof-Krate for your pet needs.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2014Size: 42.0"L x 28.0"W x 32.0"HVerified PurchaseWe have three large dogs and one brand new minivan with leather seating. Unless you like to throw a lot of old rugs into your new car, consider this sturdy, soft-sided pet home. We bought one to try it and then almost immediately ordered a second one.
Our car is a standard size minivan with a four foot wide usable space in the rear compartment. That's not wide enough to fit two of these large pet homes side by side. With the third row seats folded into the floor we can fit one of them in the rear compartment facing rearward. The other is placed on the middle row seats facing to one side or the other. To fit one in the middle row requires adjusting middle row seats as far back as possible and moving the front seats forward enough that long-legged drivers need not apply. I'm 5'9" so it's doable. I wouldn't want to drive this way on a 100 mile journey, but it's fine for getting the dogs to doggie day care or the vet. We put our 105 pound St. Bernard in the back by herself and put our 85 pound Lab and 85 pound Rottweiler together in the other one. They all have plenty of room to sit, stand, lie down, turn around, fight and bark. The middle row pet home fits snuggly enough that the dogs cannot put enough pressure over the leg area gap between the rows, so we don't bother to fill that in with boxes or commercial pads designed for that purpose. Almost all of the bottom of the pet home is firmly in contact with the seats.
Collapsing the pet homes for stowing or carrying is easy once you get the knack. Inside the pet home on both sides you push in a small red locking button to release the slide, which you slide along a two-piece rod assembling to a second position where the locking button relocks itself. The rod assembly is now exposed and readily collapses. You push the bottom rod back and down so the entire pet home folds toward you, making sure to fold in the excess material of the sides. Clasps are provided to lock the top and bottom together in a flat package for removal. A convenient carry handle is provided.
The quality of materials is impressive. The zippers are very good. The mesh material has stood up to repeated scratching with claws that daddy should've trimmed months ago. (They only scratch when they see you ready to let them out.)
I put in a couple of throw rugs to extend the life of the "floors" and soak up any accidents. All my dogs behave better in the pet homes than outside them. Mostly they lie down and rest. No anxiety is noted. I believe harnesses are safer for them, but these homes provide much more safety than letting them run loose in the car. Using harnesses requires complicated hammocks or cradles to protect the leather seats. These pet homes are much simpler and don't require any screwing around with seat belts. Until the car manufacturers wise up and provides a real solution, this will remain my method of choice. Don't car makers own dogs?
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2016Size: 42.0"L x 28.0"W x 32.0"HVerified PurchaseThis may be the best purchase I've made for a dog product. I have a 2 year old 80 pound golden retriever/lab mix and purchased the largest size in this. She is crate trained and used to sleeping in an XL size wire crate every night. When we found out we were moving across the country, I immediately started worrying about how we would manage her for 5 days on the road. Having her loose and climbing all over our 3 kids wouldn't do. We thought about putting the wire crate in the van, but it is heavy and awkward and we wouldn't be able to easily move in into the hotel rooms with us. So I found this.
I was impressed with the quality. It actually feels pretty sturdy and the canvas is strong. It sets up and folds down in less than 2 minutes and is light and easy to carry. There was no odor associated with it when we opened it. I set it up in the living room and put some treats in and had her go in. I closed her in for a couple of minutes, then let her out and gave her another treat. I put treats in the first time I took her on a test drive and she did great. We have a Toyota Sienna mini van and this fit well with the rear seats folded down. We turned it long ways (so the front entryway faced the rear) and we still had room for two large suitcases and several smaller bags on the other side. My dog had plenty of room in the crate. We also put her memory foam bed from her wire crate into this one for the trip and she still had plenty of roof clearance.
I love that there are 3 different access doors. This actually worked well for us as I can't leave her harness on her in the car or she will chew through it. I was nervous about opening the front door and having her bolt, so I opened the top and put her harness on that way before letting her out the front. It never occurred to her to jump out the top. I also put her food and water through the top a couple of times on the road. When we got to our hotels we were able to easily break this down and carry it in and set it up again. Then she felt safe and secure in a strange place. (The first night we left it in the van and she lay at the door and barked every time someone walked down the hall- we went and got the crate, put it in a far corner, and she went right to sleep).
One word of caution: be sure the zippers are completely closed. There is a little latch and hook for further security on each door. My husband didn't use the latch and left the zippers on the bottom part of the door and she was able to nose her way out. This only happened once and we were more careful after that. She loves her crate and rode very peacefully for 5 days.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2015Size: 91.4"L x 24.0"W x 27.0"HVerified PurchaseI purchased two of these crates to replace my old crates that were completely worn out. I use these crates year round and they serve as our babies bed and home base when they need them. Our dogs are tiny ... between 6 - 13 pounds and they sleep two to a crate. These crates are very sturdy and well made. Setting them up couldn't be easier (and I have setup MANY crates in my day ... save the grandpa jokes ... :-)
The top unzips to provide easy, top-down access should you need it and all sides are well ventilated. We drape a very light blanket over the crates at night to give the pups a nice dark, quiet environment to sleep.
I have read the other reviews and want to speak to two different complaints/points that have been brought up. This is purely from my experience and not a review/reflection of other reviewers and the issues they have experienced:
1.) Smell - I have not noticed any offensive or chemical smells whatsoever. We have an 8 week old pup that has had a few accidents on pee pads, but cleanup was a snap, with no lingering odors.
2.) Durability - I have found the crates to be very durable, without defect. I will say that we do NOT allow our dogs to chew on their crates, claw at the door or mesh windows. If you have a pup/dog that chews and wants to claw his/her way out of their crate, this is not the crate for you. No cloth crate is for you. You want a metal crate. At least until they can be trained not to destroy their crate. This crate is not made of Kevlar and will not stop a determined pup from chewing/clawing his way out.
Overall we are incredibly happy with our crates. They are VERY light weight and we can easily move them outside once a month to air out and let the sun cleanse them. If we decide to add a fifth pup to our pack, I would absolutely purchase this crate again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still in near perfect condition since 2014 and used every day!!
Size: 30.0"L x 27.0"W x 23.0"HVerified PurchaseEdited to add 7 years later: Ive had 2 of these crates since 2014 and they’ve been used every single day. They remain in near perfect original condition! Dogs have pawed at the screen, had accidents in them, we’ve travelled with them, I’ve taken the cover off and washed it, it set back up again perfectly. It’s an excellent crate and very well made. :)
This is a wonderful crate. It's much more aesthetically pleasing than a big wire crate with a blanket over it. Set-up was easy, it snapped into place in seconds and it can be folded down for transport in a flash. It even has a handle on it so it carries like a large briefcase, but it weighs next to nothing! This is the perfect size for a standard dachshund- even the height does not seem *ridiculously* tall for them, and I can reach in and out to fix their bedding easily enough.
There have been a few comments of poor materials, but I find both of the crates I ordered to be well made. The aluminum(?) frame is light but sturdy, the fabric and mesh looks to be of good quality. No problems with zippers, everything works very well. There is even a clasp to secure the zipper pulls at the top once the door is zipped closed so that it cannot be pawed or pushed open. I can see if you have puppy or a destructive dog that this crate would not be a good idea. But that's not the crates fault, it is not meant to be chew proof. Owners just need to use their discretion. ….my update 7 years later shows it’s durable!
Things I love about this crate:
Colour, design
Materials - you don't need a bumper bed (to block limbs from falling out between wire bars) as they can lay up against the fabic and not be uncomfortable, unlike in wire crates.
Light weight, very easy to set up and fold down
Looks good, dogs like it :)
Only 1 con - Upon first opening and setting up this crate there is a bit of a plastic/chemical smell. I let it air out for a few days and now it is barely noticeable, unless you go right up and sniff the material. I am sure this will continue to dissipate more (it did) and more over time. I'm not concerned about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super crate solution for me and my dog!
Size: 91.4"L x 24.0"W x 27.0"HVerified PurchaseSo far, so good! This has been the perfect crate for me and my new buddy! The attributes that I really like:
1) Lightweight and easy to fold up for transport to/from the SUV - this was important bringing Chip (the dog) back from Cleveland, Ohio to Montréal!
2) Looks nice in my bedroom, where the dog is staying when he's chilling out, sleeping, etc.
3) The zipper on top was a HUGE help in that when my rescue dog first came home he was very scared and wouldn't come out of his crate to go for a walk. By opening up the zipper on top of the crate, I could "shoo" him out of the crate and go for a walk. After a few days, this is unnecessary, but it was a huge deal in the beginning. Thank goodness I didn't have a hardshell, airplane type crate!
4) The "rear window" (of mesh) allowed me to lead Chip into the back of the SUV, with the crate facing out, but still allow him to see me (and vice versa) through the back window of the crate when I was driving. I think this made it much less stressful for both of us!
5) Chip is totally loving his crate - which is good for me!
The only downside for this crate is that I will have to buy a second crate to transport Chip if I ever fly with him. However, I don't expect that to happen in the near - or even distant - future, so we're good. Chip is also a fairly calm dog, so I've had zero problems with him trying to force himself out of the crate. (Note, too, that I only closed the crate completely when we were driving.)
