It is sized generously and I found it to run much bigger than specified. It is okay because my boy will be good and dry. For the winter I can put it over his sweater and coat and layer him. I have a 75 lb Doberman and though I got the XXL I could have probably just gotten the XL. I am glad though because I do live in a very cold climate and he will need the layers for when it snows. This weekend it is hitting 8 below and even colder with the wind chill. My boy will have this over his other layers. It is also a thick raincoat and very well made. It can act as a wind barrier for the thickness. I love everything about it. It is very reasonably priced for the quality you are getting. It is not really stretchy but that will not matter with the generosity of material.

I gave this a four instead of a five, and would have given it a four and a half

PROS: The quality is good and in this size covers part of my labs tail, so she keeps very dry. It has reflective strips sewn into it. Having elastic around the neck makes it easy to slip it on. There are big elastic loops for the hind legs to go into. This keeps it from shifting like other coats do. This was delivered promptly and I would buy it again as it is a quality well-made product.

CONS: Because I personally do not like the use of velcro on any of the dog coats. My wish for all the makers of dog coats, would be to use a slip buckle instead of the velcro, and have it fasten on top. Because it can get wet and dirty at times which can cause it to come undone (though with this product the velcro is better quality than the last one I had. SO TO BE FAIR IN THE DOZEN TIMES I HAVE USED THIS PRODUCT IT HAS NOT COME UNDONE). Also I would like to be able to adjust for a particular grith of a dog. I had ordered this in a XXL for our block head chocolate lab. I had in the past ordered a DIFFERENT BRAND in XL and it did not fit, so perhaps I've made a mistake purchasing this in XXL as THE SIZING WAS INDEED AS THIS COMPANY DESCRIBED. So because it was larger for our dog, I had to hem the front because she kept stepping on it. I did not return it because I was concerned that the neck might not fit her, it is elastic and she has a hunky neck and this seemed tight enough on her. I cannot tell you if the XL would have been ok in this realm if I had ordered the XL. And because of the size I chose, the strap is too loose fitting to go around her 75lb grith. SO I will be adjusting that. BUT having said all of that,I still would have purchased it.

I bought two of these for my large (100 and 110 pound Akitas) furry friends. The coats are adorable once you get them on but getting them on is difficult. There is elastic around the neck where the hood connects which is too snug so even after tugging it over their heads the elastic is too tight. I bought an XL at first thinking I could use it for both dogs since I walk them separately but it was too small for the larger of my dogs so I bought an XXL for her. It does fit better but still rather snug around the neck and it is the largest size they make. My dogs do have massive necks but according to the sizing chart they should have fit. Another issue is that there is a opening on the back to attach the lead through which you can see in the photo directly under the edge of the hood: water leaks through this opening. That being said, the fabric is waterproof and you can't beat the cute factor!

FINALLY I found a raincoat that fit my long Lab's length, and at a very decent price. The first one I had for him, a different brand in an XL, didn't cover all his back and none of his tail, and the neck was so tight I had to cut it. The neck on this one fits perfectly, and the coat protects him nicely, especially since he doesn't object to the hood. I like how the generous elastic straps that slip around his legs don't restrict his movement in any way, and also don't get in the way when he's doing his business. He's a hard fit: 74 lbs Lab mix, way long, but relatively small girth. Even with velcro, the straps around his tummy hang loose. I ordered an XXL because of his unusual length, but he really should have an XL. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again. It is well-made, and is absolutely essential in this climate. I just throw it in the washer and line dry. People think it's cute or funny--I've had people stop to take a picture with their phones--but I bought it because I don't want a wet dog. The coat protects him nicely--wherever his coat hits him, he stays completely dry. Also, idk why, but he loves to wear it -- I swear he sort of "prances" when he's got it on. It's a hoot. Other people have noticed this too.

I had reviewed this item first on Dec 28 2012 and had given it 5 stars. I have down-graded now and given it a 4 stars. My original review appears below the line.

The two elastic loops for rear side that appeared weak when I first started using the rain coat and kept me thinking that they are going to break easily, did break in the last week of December 2013. I am still thinking of finding a fix. They cannot be sewn because of the material of the jacket. The only alternate appears to be to attach them through a strong glue.

Since I hike long distances with my dog, a Kuvasz, in all weather conditions, I was looking for a raincoat just to prevent his fur from getting wet from rain, freezing rain, wet snow, snow, etc. I was also looking for just a raincoat, not a rain-winter jacket for my dog has a double coat that provides ample protection against cold / freezing weather conditions. For breeds with double coats, a winter jacket can become very warm indeed.

This raincoat turned out to be perfect. It snugs in over neck and spreads out over back and sides, providing total coverage. It keeps in place by tying an attached belt on the chest and two elastic loop bands that are hooked over the hindquarters. There is a slot on the back for tying leash to a harness, but I don't use it. There is a reflector lining on the raincoat and a small pocket on the back side too.

However, there are weaknesses as well. The attached belt has Velcro, but the placement on two sections of the belt is inadequate. I have to tie the belt instead of attaching the two Velcro sections. The two elastic loops for rear side appear weak and keep me thinking that they are going to break easily. Besides, putting the hind legs through those loops for a giant breed is a tricky exercise. However, I do note that this is perhaps the best solution to prevent raincoat from slipping away from the rear.

My dog seems baffled whenever I put the raincoat on him, but once he gets going, I don't think he minds it at all. In addition, we get compliments from other people all the time.

Finally, one compliment is in order here. The raincoat was delivered very quickly. I wasn't expecting that quick a delivery at all. My hats off to both the supplier and amazon.ca

I am happy with my purchase. Considering all the different types, shapes and sizes of dogs, it is a good product.

Reading through the reviews here, the consensus is to purchase one size larger than the recommendations. 60-70lb Field/working type(so a little bit lanky) - Labrador Retriever and i picked up the XX-Large. The length turned out great because it covers his hind quarters completely and rides over his tail a bit. The strap around his belly is too long, but with some creative velcro'ing it is not an issue at all. (shortening it and sewing yourself should be simple matter as well)

There are elastic straps for each hind leg to keep the bottom of the coat from sliding around. They are thin and i dont see them lasting more than a couple months with a rugged workout/run..

The hood itself is useless for my dog. It goes over most of the neck, barely reaches his floppy ears and no where even close to covering his head. Only good for a dog with a very short/compact neck and head.

Reflective stripes look great. A good product overall.
