- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2016These are a great training tool for dogs that are reactive. I've been using this when transporting my two Dobermans in the car. When they are together, they feed off of one another and will be reactive towards a person who comes near the car, motorcycles, bicycles, etc. The calming caps seem to take the edge off of them and they ride quietly. I've also recommended them for people having issues walking reactive dogs. It makes a difference in that the dog stays calmer and is able to focus on the handler. The best thing is that this is not an adversive and you're not forcing or punishing your dog for the behavior. You will most likely need to acclimate them to having the cap on their head. My dogs did try to rub them off initially, but we keep on rewarding them and telling them how wonderful they are. They're getting much more comfortable with them now and have ridden in the car for about an hour while wearing them.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2015The best $20 we have spent! I have a cattle dog that freaks out when he sees other dogs while walking on a leash, when restrained in the car or hanging out at home. He even freaks out when he sees his own reflection in our mirrors, oven door and fireplace guard. We have completed about 100 hrs obedience but in these circumstances to no avail until we got the calming cap. Issue over! We tried at the recommendation of our vet when other calming methods including travelers treats and nutricalm did nothing. We considering Prozac but this did the trick. He grew up w a gentle leader used for control and training and is calmed by that too but this takes calming to the next level. Did not take getting use to since fit is very similar to the gentle leader. Thank you very much for this great invention. I gave it 4 stars because I wish it was adjustable around the nose. The elastic is nice but a little more restrictive than I'd like. Not bad but may be able to be improved? I've used it hiking and my dog can still pant but not like he can in the gentle leader.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2021This thing is a GAME CHANGER! My golden retriever goes absolutely beserk every time she sees another dog, I dreaded every walk with her. I had her wear this cap for just a minute or two at a time for several days at first to get her acclimated to it. We just now completed our first actual walk with her wearing it, and what a night and day difference. She did attempt to gently paw it off of her face a couple times, but by the end of the walk she was totally unbothered. No crazy barking or lunging! I wish I’d gotten this cap for her sooner. I will say, the part that sits around her snout, while not overly tight, did seem to bother her a bit. So I cut that elastic out and just put a little stitch in it where it fit nicely but not tight around her snout, and she seemed to prefer that much better than the elastic. We got a couple strange looks, but this thing is worth every penny and some.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020I tried putting this on my dog three times!! He wasn’t having anything to do with it! Great idea, especially for an older dog with neurological issues, sadly I’m returning.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2012I don't see how this could possibly be calming. I take my dog to agility trials, and he has to stay in his crate for a lot of the day, but he barks and barks while he's in there. I cover his crate so he can't see as much, but I was worried about it getting hot in there, so I thought maybe a calming cap would be a good alternative. I bought one and put in on him and he had an absolute freak out trying to get it off with his paws and by rolling all over the floor. He eventually got it halfway off and it was stuck in him mouth and he was panicking and I had to help him. Definitely the opposite of calming. I mean, maybe it would keep him from barking because he'd be too busy trying to get it off, but it certainly isn't calming him down.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2014The velcro catches on the material and pulls it, so I've found it best to keep it attached to his collar and take the collar on and off. The elastic around the nose is only sewn in at one spot, so the elastic twists after taking it off and on a few times. Our dog adapted well to it and has not tried to paw it off. Seems he sees less things that are in a distance, so he is less reactive in that sense. However he seems more reactive to things he can see that are closer. I suspect since they are fuzzy because of the cap, they seem like novel things. This item took much longer to receive than normal, even though it did come on the last day of the range I was given at check out.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2014This cap turned hellacious car rides into manageable ones with our giant schnauzer. We adopted him at 2 years old and were warned of his car ride issues, especially at night with the glare of headlights. My boyfriend had to literally hold his body down and cover his eyes with his hand. The cap made a huge difference. He didn't try to take it off like I thought he would and it did calm him down to where he laid his head down on the console between the front seat. It did make an incredible difference in his crazed behavior in the car. I tried it myself and it does not block his view off completely, he can still see movement through the fabric but apparently its enough to make a big difference. I don't know if it was designed that way or not. Perhaps if he couldn't see anything at all it may cause more anxiety, who knows. Its also easy to put on and attaches to the collar. I highly recommend trying this cap.

1.0 out of 5 stars I found it more useful to spend some money on a dog behaviourist to ...
My dog was very scared of the car. Jumping all over the place, repetitive jumping back and forth, the harness stopping her going further, then immediately jumping again. For ages ata a time, and wouldn't stop. The Thundershort made no difference, and made her overheat as she continued her jumping and panting. I found it more useful to spend some money on a dog behaviourist to visit and give me some help that way. It's a long process but was definately worth the money to get really good advice. Things are looking up now. I think my dogs fears were just too extreme for the Thundershirt to be any use. She's a nervous dog anyway at times. I also tried the Thundercap, but whilst I followed instructions which came with it for several days on getting her used to it in the house, once she was in the car she just scrabbled to try to remove it, causing double the stress and problems for her. I think the people who came up with this idea should mention that it might not work for many extreme issues. However, I am aware that a full refund is offered if it doesn't work within a month. That should have been my clue I guess. For my money I got better value from the dog behaviourist.

Calms my dog a lot, he's dog aggressive, after being attacked via another dog, doesn't completely take it away but much better

5.0 out of 5 stars really works!
When combined with the thundershirt, this cap provided extra calming for a visit to the vet. A simple procedure was able to be completed without sedation. It takes some practice runs to help the dog get the greatest benefit from its use.
