When should my pet wear a muzzle
Training to avoid bites is important, but sometimes muzzles are necessary, particularly while a pet is still in the rehabilitation process. If you have a pet that is likely to bite and you’re going to be in a situation that’s stressful for the pet, a muzzle might be a good idea. Stressful situations can include a trip to the vet, or places where you’ll be around a lot of strange pets and people. Keep in mind that, like all muzzles, they should only be worn for brief periods of time, up to twenty minutes at the most, depending upon temperature and the pet’s activity level. Constantly monitor your pet’s comfort and remove the muzzle if they are showing any difficulty breathing or signs of overheating.
What kind of muzzle should my pet wear
This depends on the situation. At the vet or when you’re working on socialization, a mesh style muzzle will work. Although if your pet is going to be running, playing, or otherwise physically active, then a basket style muzzle is ideal. This allows the pet to pant for cooling as well as to drink water, but still keeps her from being able to bite.
How to measure your pets snout
Measure the circumference midway between the tip of the nose and eyes, under the chin and over the top of your pet's muzzle. If your pet’s snout is the exact same size as the pet muzzle, your pet will not be able to open his mouth to pant, please order the next size up.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2017I needed a muzzle to have on-hand because my dog was sick and wouldn't let us near him. The nylon cloth muzzle the vet clinic used was too tight and freaked our dog out. So, I bought this one so he could still lick and pant, but couldn't chop at you. It's a softer plastic that's not too rigid, and was a perfect fit for his corgi snout. Only have needed it twice and it stayed put and did not scare him. Well worth the cost.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2018You definitely need a muzzle with a head strap for your dog. I had to modify the muzzle twice to get it to work on my small chihuahua. I just cut the slack and super glued the ends together and then used the slack to create a head strap and now it works perfectly. I clipped it on my dog and measured how much slack it needed cut off and that’s where I made my cut (#1 in picture) and super glued the pieces together. Then I took the slack and looped it around the top of the muzzle and super glued that (#2). Then I put the other end through the two pieces of strap where it aligned straight back from the muzzle to the clip while having the muzzle clipped to determine where it should be glued. After I did all that my dog couldn’t get it off anymore. It was still a tad bit too big for my small chihuahua but it does the trick and it’s pretty cheap even with the super glue.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2022My dog is an 11 pound chihuahua mix (half chi, some pug and min pin). I took her measurements and bought the XXS. This muzzle did not fit my dog right. The sides poked her in the eyes if the muzzle got shifted slightly out of proper position. She could not open her mouth wide enough to chew a treat I gave her inside the muzzle as positive reinforcement. I put the treat in the muzzle and let her get the treat as I put the muzzle on her, but then once the muzzle was in place she could not chew the treat. This tells me she won't be able to pant or drink water, either, while wearing the muzzle. I decided it wasn't safe for her to wear it unsupervised. I think the next size up would be too big for her. My dog's snout measurements are: top 1.5", bottom 3", and circumference 6".
Also, she could fit her tongue through the slits in the front, so she could still lick things that she is not supposed to. The front of the muzzle should be a grid instead of the weird smile-like slits.
The muzzles slips off easily and would need to be attached to a collar in order to prevent the dog from sliding it off.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2019I bought these small muzzles for our Dachshunds, who like to eat #2 outside. Some smaller dogs also have a tendency to nip people they don't know to defend their pet parent, and this is a good way to prevent that, too. The muzzle is spacious, so the dog can breathe easily and pant, too. Fortunately, it has prevented a lot of #2 eating, and it's worth it. Easy to adjust, too.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2017Worked great for my puppy, she could not get it off and it stopped her from eating stones when I was not looking, now she is too big for it- but I have put in on my other dog who can have episodes of excessive barking. That dog cannot get it off either, and in just a few minutes I can take it off- and no more barking. It is a softer plastic- not like the ones I have seen in pet stores.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2016I have a Bichon Frise who is around 21 lbs. She likes to go to the yard and eats poos. So I purchased this for her, now my problem solved. She can still sniff around but she can't eat poo anymore. This muzzle fits well with her, and not too tight and uncomfortable. I think it's very good choice for me. Love it!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2021bought for my senior rescue deer-head chi, who only needs to be muzzled for vet visits. as you can see, there is almost no room for him to open his mouth, so there is no pant room. but because he will only be using it at the vet, it’s fine. so if your dog is going to be wearing this for an extended period of time, i’d pass on this muzzle. if it will only be worn shortly, i recommend it because it’s cheap and it works. i do wish it had a head strap though, because i would be able to loosen it slightly without the possibility of him getting it off.
i did have to shorten the strap by cutting it and supergluing it, and i also cut a treat hole to assist in our training.
another thing to note is that the bottom piece that the strap goes through that sits on their neck, may stick into their throat. i heated this part up with a hairdryer and bent it away so it was sitting against his neck instead of poking it.
overall, good muzzle to use for short periods of time. definitely recommend for short term use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit for my Hound Dog
I have a rescue pup that eats anything she finds in the yard. Her last muzzle, once she got it off, became a chew toy lol! Little dickens!
So I took a chance on this one and bought a small based on the sizing chart, she is 32lbs and it fits her perfectly!! She also hasn't been able to get this one off.
It will protect her from eating any other animal feces left in the yard, which can require a trip to the Vet, so a total win win because the spaces on the front (by the nose and below) are small enough that nothing is getting through.

4.0 out of 5 stars XXS doesn't fit to chihuahua
Turns out, XXS doesn't fit to a chihuahua. He is about 7-8 pounds long haired chihuahua. even though I made it as small as possible using the stretcher, it won't fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fast delivery. Fantastic for dogs who eat everything. And it doesn’t make him look vicious
Fantastic muzzle. My dog has a little eating problem. I love these because they are not black. And my dog looks like Hannibal Lecter with the black ones on. And these are really great to stop him from eating anything. Every other muscle I’ve ever bought has allowed him to eat some thing through the muzzle. Also they come super quickly and fit really well he gets an extra large. Very happy with this product
